2010: The Year of Declining Engagement
Corporate events and meetings give businesses the opportunity to share information, direction and make employees feel like they are an integral part of a team. However, employee fatigue is showing in response to a lengthy period of stress, uncertainty and confusion brought about by the recession as many companies have elected to eliminate events while tightening their fiscal belts and this has caused added tension between employers and employees, ultimately decreasing engagement.
In fact, I recently came across a study performed by Hewitt Associates’ research division. In their article, Hewitt suggests during the past year employee engagement has reached a record low. Through analyzing roughly 900 global companies Hewitt has found that corporate instability has created less focused employees.
You may ask; what major benefits does a focused employee bring? An engaged employee will:
- Trust their managers and put more faith in their decisions
- Put more effort into climbing the corporate ladder; decreasing employee turnover
- Keep team morale high; a focused employee is generally a happy employee
Do you know of any other benefits that are associated with engaged employees? Let me know, I’d love to hear about it!
