3 Tips From HarpCon 2010

Last week I penned a post from HarpCon 2010 preaching the importance of face-to-face interaction. From the very beginning of the conference I was certain that HarpCon 2010 would be a complete success. In fact, we received a few dozen glowing reviews from attendees. While reflecting on our feedback I was able to identify 3 major themes that made this event enjoyable for everyone that was involved.

Here are 3 tips you can use at your next event:

  1. Work & Play: After long days of workshops, tutorials and performances attendees needed some time to unwind. The musicians took part in unscheduled performances long after the conference was dismissed for the day, strictly for the sake of having a good time!
  2. Consistently Weave the Message: I received the opportunity to MC this event! I was well received because I was able to tie together the events from each day by storytelling, reflecting on conversations that took place in workshops and reinforcing one of the conference’s key messages, “Each One ~ Teach One “
  3. Stay Diverse: The most positive reviews we received were from attendees impressed by the diversity of information shared at the event. One participant wrote, “Besides the beautiful, inspirational music there was a huge amount of technology involved (i.e. heart monitoring with waveform); I was surprised. I put a great value on this kind of information.”
