Proof that PowerPoint is a Snooze Fest
I recently ran across an article on MarketingProfs entitled, “One Third of Adults Have Snoozed During PowerPoint Presentations“. The article sites a survey of 1,000 U.S. professionals and the results are pretty conclusive; people hate PowerPoint presentations! Need proof, the survey said:
- More than 32% of surveyed adults say they have fallen asleep during a PowerPoint presentation
- One in five surveyed adults (21%) say they would rather to do their taxes over watching a PowerPoint slideshow
- 20% would prefer to visit the dentist
- Among those lulled to sleep via PowerPoint, 55% say it has happened at least twice
- 30% of adults say they have snuck out of a presentation at least once
- Millennials are twice as likely as Boomers to report sneaking out of presentation at least once
Bottom-line, worry about your audience’s engagement rather than taking the easy-road. Although PowerPoint presentations are easier to create than other alternatives, they tend to only produce more sleep for your audience!
