Event Design: Catering to Learning Styles (Part 2 of 2)

During my last blog post I discussed the importance of being aware of adult learning styles. I encouraged readers to develop meetings that were friendly to visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners alike! However, the biological way our brain processes information should also be considered when producing an event.

When designing material to cover during your next meeting or event please consider the way information is absorbed by the brain. According to Dr. Richard Ackley of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, “The way material is presented at conferences caters primarily to the left brain (which processes facts), sometimes to the exclusion of the right brain (responsible for intuition and emotion). When this happens, the overall learning process is stunted.”

To ensure maximum learning incorporate some right-brain engagement through energy, humor, confidence and compassion. This will keep both sides of the brain engaged and interested!
