Live From HarpCon 2010
When your career choice is uncommon the need to share, collaborate and grow professionally is incredibly important. This past week we planned and produced for the International Society of Folk Harpists and Craftsmen, HarpCon 2010, at the Millennium Hotel in St. Louis, MO.
Each One ~ Teach One – At HarpCon attendees interact and learn from world-class harp musicians and craftsmen. The highlight of each day were the afternoon and evening concerts featuring an exceptional and diverse group of world-class performers such as Sharlene Wallace from Canada, Sunita Stanislaw from Israel, Patrice Fisher’s Latin Jazz and the delightful “Betty White of Folk Harps” octogenarian, Louise Trotter from Texas.
So far, my favorite moment at HarpCon 2010 was a performance from Alfredo Rolando Ortiz. Ortiz is a master of Cuban inspired harp music, adding a Latin flare to a traditional instrument. In fact, take a look at the track I found written and performed by Ortiz on YouTube (above).
Make sure to stay tuned, I’ll add another post from HarpCon 2010 this week!
