Meeting Strategies: 8 Tips for Success
Conducting an efficient and fun meeting isn’t always easy. I’m often asked, “How do I make my meetings run smoothly?”. Over the past 25 years I’ve been developing a method for each meeting I conduct that produces maximum results and engaged participants. Here are my top 8 meeting strategy tips:
- Purpose: Have a reason to meet. Companies frequently schedule meetings with little to no purpose
- Facilitator: Appoint a leader to guide the discussion and keep everyone focused
- Prepare: Never setup a meeting without having materials and visuals prepared prior to setting foot in the conference room
- Road Map: Having an agenda will keep talks fluid and attendees engaged
- Rules of Engagement: Have a set of rules established for meetings within your organization. This will help the facilitator keep order
- Discuss & Decide: Encourage participation but leave no decisions undeclared. This will eliminate redundancy
- Time Management: Have a set start and end time. Value the time you’re spending together and make it count
- Post-Meeting Action: Follow through on tasks that were assigned during the meeting. This will give your future meetings more authority and importance
