Takeaway of the Week: Oprah Winfrey’s Last Show

This week Oprah finished her tenure with ABC, airing the last episode of her self-titled daytime talk-show. During a portion of the finale she addressed her thoughts on the guests and presenters that were featured on the show. Winfrey said, “They all wanted to validate. Do you see me? Do you hear me? Does what I say mean anything to you? People want to be heard.”

Her thoughts struck a chord with me considering I had just published a post on Dewitt Jones. Jones felt that speakers should take the stance of sharing experiences rather than telling people what they need to do to improve.

It’s OK to enjoy the limelight but remember it’s all about sharing your story. The best way to engage is through a connection, not a lecture!
