Use Pinterest to Promote Your Event and Business
Pinterest’s popularity has exploded in 2012. It’s one of the newer social networks, but it’s important because 11.7 unique visitors each month and users in the U.S. spent an average of 1 hour and 17 minutes on the site compared to just 17 minutes for LinkedIn users. If you haven’t yet signed up for the latest trend in social networking, here’s how it works. You ask for an invitation to join, and then login through your Facebook or Twitter accounts. Then, you have the ability to “pin” images that you find throughout your travels around the World Wide Web. People use Pinterest to save recipes, decorating and craft ideas, or to post ideas for a special event they are planning to their virtual pinboard. Companies, publications, and presidential campaigns are all pinning these days, some with more success than others. Any profession that has a heavy emphasis on the visual is perfect for Pinterest. So, as you can see, Pinterest is a natural fit for the world of event planning.
This blog is a great resource for sharing information and tips, but Pinterest is a way to show photos of events, where people can see what we you are doing instead of just talking about it. Pins link back to the original website too, so it directs traffic back to the source.
On Pinterest you can “follow” the pins of your friends or businesses that interest you or with whom you have a relationship. So an event planner can similarly follow the companies for whom they produce events. Event planners can also pin things they find on the web and want to share. You can create different “boards” with different themes so it’s easily searchable. For example, you could have boards specific for each company for whom you plan events, or boards that focus on specific topics.
Pinterest is fun, highly visual and a great source of information and ideas.
