Holiday Party Planning (Part 2): The Don’ts

Planning and executing a corporate holiday party can be a lot of fun! In my last post I discussed a few ways to get the most out of your office holiday party.

Unfortunately, office parties can catch a bad wrap because every year a few companies make poor decisions. Be sure to avoid a merry-meltdown by following my corporate holiday party “don’ts” list:

  • Don’t Over Serve: According to a recent online article published by MSNBC, “20 percent of people surveyed had too much to drink at a work holiday party and 14 percent say they know someone who was fired for their behavior.” Enjoying a few adult spirits amongst coworkers is perfectly acceptable. However, over indulgence doesn’t benefit anyone. Prevent it from occurring by speaking to your staff in charge of alcohol about moderation prior to the event!

  • Don’t Talk Shop: There is nothing worst than trying to sneak in business during a corporate holiday party. Everyone attending the party is there to have fun, including the people throwing the bash. Enjoy the holidays, it only happens once a year!

  • Don’t be a Wall Flower: Make it a goal to talk to 10 people you normally don’t get to interact with! We tell C-level people to do this at all events because a simple disarming conversation can go miles in boosting morale.
